Alright, so quick, short post today. I’ve been kinda bouncing around a ton of different interests: freestyle rapping, blogging, copywriting, popping, poker and on and on. Yeah, it’s the hit it and quit it lifestyle for me. I just can’t commit. I used a condom though.
But after really thinking things through, I have so many things I want to do. But I don’t have a goal. What should I focus on? Well, I can break it down into three components:
- Health
- Wealth
- Love
Health: I’ve always been really, really good at consistently working out. I don’t have a problem going to the gym. I also don’t eat fast food and I get sick infrequently. No problem here. Score 9/10.
Wealth: I have a decently well-paying job right out of college. Like most recent college grads. Not a great fit. I also do not have enough savings + income streams to do what I want. Score 3/10
Love: My dating life could use a lot of work but for relationships in general, I’d say I have awesome friends who generally support and encourage me. The problem for me is that dating will require a significantly larger time investment, time that I’m not willing to take away from my side-projects. I believe that I have a responsibility to my future girlfriends and kids to love what I’m doing, because my happiness will rub off on them. Or I just need to meet a supppperrrrr chilll girl who can tolerate me spending most of my free time working. 5/10.
So my focus now, is on making money.
For anyone who doesn’t like their job, I believe that if you don’t like your job, you should be doing everything in your power outside your normal work hours to change that situation. I’m preachin but only kinda practicing. Kinda is now turning into massive action.
But for me, my goal isn’t to find another job, my goal is to earn enough money on my own to have the freedom to do whatI want( learn new skills, adventure, travel the world, write). Earning enough money to support my ideal lifestyle is the ultimate goal. But let’s break it down into concrete terms:
Current financial goal: Earn $2000/month or $12,000 total through side-income by December 2016.
$2000/month is enough for me to cover my basic needs(food, shelter) and will give me enough wiggle room to quit my job without having to find another job. Plus, I already have a cushion of savings to fall back on and recurring income from my current full-time job.
So I’m using this goal as a filter. Any project I want to take on has to contribute to this goal. If it does not, I am not gonna do it( which renders some items on my previous post obsolete. I need to be careful before I make public commitments like that). But hopefully, it’ll provide some clarity in which direction I’ll go with. Don’t worry, I’m going to keep blogging. I still want to be able to use these blog posts to reflect. I just probably can’t write 22 page posts like this one. Or meticulously edit and tighten up the words( for now).
Just like a strong investor, I need to be meticulous with my time and invest my time in high ROI projects. I also need to make sure I take projects one by one and not spread my attention too thin. We’ll see how this goes. I’ll probably be writing more about money and finances more since that’s my focus now.
